About Us

From the organization’s inception in 2005, the Vancouver Short Film Festival put on its first successful festival in 2009 at the Vancity Theatre. Each year, the festival programs around 50 films annually and awards over $15,000 in cash and prizes to BC’s best shorts.

In 2021 VSFF held its very first online edition via Eventive Virtual, screening 61 films over 7 programmes and holding three days of special events, showcasing the best filmmaking talent from around the province.

The 12th Vancouver Short Film Festival will be held in January 2022 and we are looking for committed volunteer staff members to add to our stellar team. We are dedicated to working hard to showcase the best shorts in BC, we love watching movies, and most importantly, we like to have fun.

Social Media Coordinator

Duration: May 2021 - Feb 2022

Time commitment is expected to range between 5-8 hours per week, and increase leading up to the festival. We expect the candidate to be actively sharing the festival happenings on our social media accounts during the festival period (typically a 3 day period).


Duties include:

  • Attending staff meetings as required.

  • Working with the Marketing team and Festival Co-Directors to come up with new content ideas for social media, generating basic graphic and written content for our channels.

  • Managing, posting, and uploading media on our social media accounts, including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and new accounts as they arise.

  • Drafting social media updates for our community partners to share, and communicating/promoting important festival deadlines via our social networks.

  • Editing major graphic marketing materials (cards, posters, ads and the festival programme) alongside the festival team.

  • Fostering engagement with members on said accounts.

  • Sharing news and promotions from sponsors, community partners, and other third parties on our accounts at the direction of the Festival Co-Directors and other staff members.

  • Recording relevant statistics such as growth of account followers and video views.

  • Attending networking events or other local film festivals/organizations, if desired.

  • Managing our social media account on-site at the festival including frequent content sharing, community engagement, replying to messages, etc.

  • Contributing to the official Marketing Report following the festival (which can be used for your own portfolio).

  • Assisting the Marketing team with tasks as needed.

Qualifications


You:

  • Are passionate about the film industry, and attend movies or arts events on a regular basis.

  • Are organized, have great written communication skills, and love to be on social media.

  • Are a fast learner and are great working both alone and with a team.

  • Possess a strong working knowledge of social media best practices and trends, and are excited and driven when it comes to building social media strategy and presence

  • Prior experience managing social media accounts on behalf of an organization is considered an asset

  • Connections to networks such as bloggers and social media influencers is considered an asset

  • Are graduating or have graduated with a Marketing, Arts or equivalent degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Have access to the Internet and phone.
